Job Summary

Responsible for fabricating, modifying, and repairing mechanical instruments and assemblies using precision tools and machinery to produce high-quality parts according to specifications. Interpret blueprints, monitor operations, inspect product, problem solve, accurate recordkeeping. Participate in continuous improvement initiatives.

Essential Functions

\n
• Assists with the installation, operation, testing, and adjustment of various types of conventional or automatic machines used to produce precision parts and instruments.
\n
• Fabricates and modifies parts to make or repair machine tools or maintain industrial machines, applying knowledge of mechanics, shop mathematics, metal properties, layout, and machining procedures.
\n
• Machines parts to specifications using machine tools such as lathes, milling machines, shapers, or grinders.
\n
• Measures, examines, and tests completed units in order to detect defects and ensure conformance to specifications.
\n \n Required Qualifications
• \n Required education and experience: Vocational/Technical Training Degree and 1-2 years' experience OR Equivalent Combination of Relevant Education &/or Experience
Preferred Qualifications
\n
• \n Preferred education: Associate's Degree
\n
• \n Discipline/Major: Technical training preferred
\n
• \n Knowledge, skills & abilities: Mathematical skills. Technical expertise. Manual dexterity. Physical Stamina. Ability to stand for long periods of time. Leadership skills.
\n
• \n Experience : Proven work experience as a Precision Machinist or in a similar role within a manufacturing setting.
\n
• \n Technical Proficiency : Strong understanding of machining processes and the ability to operate and maintain various types of machine tools.
\n
Physical Requirements
\n
• Requires regular movement throughout GD-OTS facilities.
\n
• Must be able to lift up to 45 pounds.
\n
• May need to stand for long periods of time.
\n
• Work may require employee to work inside and outside with exposure to changing climate and/or operate machinery.
\n
• May be requested to work a different shift.
\n
• Must be willing to work outside normal business hours as required.
\n
• This position is Safety-Sensitive.
\n
