We are seeking a passionate and motivated Medical Assistant to work within Philadelphia FIGHT's YHEP/Pediatric Health Center. Philadelphia FIGHT, initially founded in 1990 as a comprehensive AIDS service organization, is now a Federally Qualified Health Center with four clinical sites, providing access to state-of-the art, culturally competent primary care, advocacy, social services, consumer education, and outreach for all patients in need, regardless of HIV status.

The YHEP/Pediatrics clinic aims to provide comprehensive and culturally effective health care to children of all ages through young adulthood, regardless of insurance and immigration status. We aim to provide a healthcare environment where families and youth feel special and staff members are appreciated. The patients and staff at Philadelphia FIGHT are diverse, representing a broad spectrum of race, religion, gender identity, sexual orientation, HIV status, and physical ability. As such it is imperative that candidates demonstrate sensitivity to the needs of various populations.

The ideal candidate is professional, innovative, emotionally intelligent, intellectually curious, hard-working, and reliable, computer savvy and open to new ideas. This person will take a trauma-informed, patient-centered approach to dealing with families.

About the Role:

  • Schedule: Full-time, Monday - Friday (9:00 - 5:00PM). May occasionally require early mornings or extended evening hours as needed.
  • Location: Pediatrics and Adolescent Health Clinic, 1207 Chestnut St, 5th Floor, Phila, PA 19107
  • Compensation & Benefits:
    • FSLA status is non-exempt with hourly rate of $22 per hour
    • 2 weeks of PTO annually + 11 paid holidays

Requirements: The Medical Assistant must be able to demonstrate judgement, patience, integrity, organization, and prioritization in a multi-task environment. Current CPR certification is required, or renewal must be obtained within 60 days of employment. Candidates that can demonstrate Spanish fluency in a medical office environment are strongly encouraged to apply.

  1. Experienced as a Pediatric Medical Assistant/Phlebotomist, Medical Assistant or Certified Registered Medical Assistant.
  2. Has prior experience and/or desire to work with a diverse population of youth (required).
  3. Be competent in the use of Electronic Medical Record Systems, and have knowledge of Vaccine for Children standards, policies, and procedures.
  4. Must be able to pass State Child Abuse clearance (required).
  5. Have attention to detail, dependability, listening and communication skills, and flexibility.

Responsibilities include:

  1. Measure and collect vital signs based off patient visit type.
  2. Perform phlebotomy with specimen collection and processing.
  3. Administer injections and vaccinations.
  4. Perform point of care tests, such as strep tests, glucose measurement, urine dipstick, etc.
  5. Document all activities appropriately in the electronic medical record system.
  6. Meticulously comply with all rules and regulations from the Vaccine for Children program.
  7. Assist provider with any exam room procedures Ear irrigation, chaperoning an exam, Suture/Staple removals, etc.)
  8. Stock and clean exam rooms between visits.
  9. Perform Stericycle biohazard waste materials packaging.
  10. Perform CLIA Quarterly Assessments and Vaccine for Children temperature documentation.
  11. Complete daily Chart Prep, Vaccination Abstraction, and Inventory Counts.
  12. Act as a Patient Educator for services/procedures that patients will receive in office.
  13. Work closely with the Nurse Manager to ensure day to day clinical flow within the division.
  14. Serve as a Mentor to other Medical Assistants to ensure best practices are being used to standardize patient care.
  15. Provide assessment of clinical workflows and equipment.

Other duties:

  1. Attend all required staff meetings/trainings and participate in daily huddles.
  2. Communicate with team members in a professional and respectful manner.
  3. Work in compliance with all medical policies.
  4. Work in compliance with standards such as VFC, OSHA, HIPPA, CLIA and funding body regulations.
  5. Demonstrate commitment to clinical care and confidentiality.
  6. Report all concerns, in a professional manner, to nurse manager and/or medical director.
  7. Contribute to process the practice's process and quality improvement goals.
  8. Demonstrate professionalism in all interactions with patients and co-workers.
  9. Maintain a positive cohesive work environment.
  10. Complete daily Chart Prep, Vaccination Abstraction, and Inventory Counts.
  11. Bi-weekly LabCorp ordering, while informing Nurse Manager and Practice Manager of any issues.
  12. Adhere to active close loop communication within the Care team for patient satisfaction.
