Salary: $68,975.47 - $103,463.21 Annually Location : Avondale, AZ Job Type: Full Time Department: Police Opening Date: 08/18/2025 Closing Date: 9/2/2025 11:59 PM Arizona FLSA: Exempt Job Description Lead with Compassion: Become Avondale Police Department's Victim Advocate Supervisor! Coordinates and administers the Victim Advocate Program within the Avondale Police Department, performing more difficult work involving assisting crime victims by providing services through established programs, including but not limited to crisis intervention, court accompaniment, advocacy, ensuring victims' rights, crime victim compensation information, and victim referral services. Assists victims of crime, provides empathetic assistance, and utilizes effective communication skills with those in crisis. Ability to maintain accurate and up-to-date records and documentation, analyze situations, and determine appropriate or alternate solutions. Responsible for application, renewal, and administration of grants and all associated reporting documents. Facilitates a crime victim crisis intervention program. Essential Functions Supervises, evaluates, trains, plans, and coordinates the activities of the Victim Advocate and the unit. Participates in hiring and disciplinary decisions. Addresses and resolves escalated issues. Performs the program's more senior-level professional and analytical work. Develops operating policies and procedures; provides consulting and advice on interpretation and implementation. Prepares grant requests and monitors compliance with requirements related to receiving grants for victim services and victim activities. Responsible for all adherence and compliance with all victim rights mandates, including all law enforcement and custodial rights. Schedules, reviews, and verifies work for accuracy. Provides direct support to crime victims by explaining their legal rights, including restitution, and guiding them through the court process. Notifies victims of upcoming court dates, addresses questions regarding their role in proceedings, and gathers input on desired case disposition. Counsels victims on their rights and responsibilities, assesses the impact of the crime on their lives and property, and identifies support needs, making referrals to appropriate support agencies for further assistance or resources when necessary. Facilitates appropriate outreach events and marketing to honor the designation of National Awareness Months, including domestic violence awareness and teen dating abuse. Participates in program goal setting and development of objectives. Attend on-site community events, workshops, public speaking engagements, and meetings, as well as occasional events outside of normal business hours. Knowledge of the criminal justice system, police department policies and procedures, crisis intervention and case management techniques, computerized data systems, and principles of effective supervision. Five (5) years of experience in a supervisor or lead capacity in case management and victim rights, social work, crisis intervention, or a related field. An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered if sufficient to perform the essential duties of the role as listed herein. Valid Arizona Operator's Driver License. Supplemental Information Must be able to successfully pass a comprehensive background check, polygraph, and psychological exam. Bilingual skills in English/Spanish is preferred. Must be willing and able to work nights and/or weekends for events.
