Hey! My name is Carissa and I own a small business doing pet sitting and dog walking, called Pookies Paws I have been in business for four years and am looking for someone to join my team. PLEASE READ BEFORE APPLYING!

Ideally, I’m looking for someone who’s retired and wants to get out and assist with animals from time to time. At the moment, I’m not big enough to give a “full” part time job. If you need a steady income or schedule, this is NOT for you. I’m hoping to find someone to possibly work one full day a week, and assist with a few appointments during the rest of the days, depending on how full my schedule gets. I know this is a funky job, I’m just caught inbetween having no days off for months, but can’t give someone a clear part time schedule. I would give you a schedule the weekend prior, and update as necessary. If something gets added to the schedule after I give you the details, and you can’t do it, I would pick it up. Because this is all over the place schedule wise, I think a retiree would be best. I have hired a college student before, I’m not closed to the idea, but generally a lot of appointments are during the day, so you may be in class.

If you are interested, please apply. I need someone who will be meticulously responsible. You are going into clients homes, and caring for their family. You need to be on time for appointments, you need to have your phone on you at all times while working. if I’m interested in someone, I would have them train with me for a few days. You may have to meet clients that I’ve worked with exclusively, to introduce yourself. I’d need you to check in with me once you’re on your own, when you get to a clients home and when you leave. I won’t always be so annoying once I know you’re doing things correctly, you just have to understand I’ve built my business by myself, so it’s very important to me that things be done right.

Once I find the right person, it will give me a chance to grow the business and if you’re interested, I could get you more hours. If I have time off, I can market more, bringing in new clients. I want someone who’s respectful, but also willing to come to me with ideas. If you have an idea on how to make something better, how to expand, how to make something easier, I want to hear it. While you would be “working for me” I want you to feel like an equal. I’m not getting off on ordering you around, it should eventually feel more like a partnership once you’re up and going and get the hang of it.

Obviously you’d need a smartphone, a vehicle and insurance on your car. If you have experience working with animals, I want to hear about it. If you don’t, but have animals, let me hear about it. If there’s a certain animal you won’t work with, let me know. Clearly can’t be a cat or dog, as that’s the primary.

Responsibilities:

• Handle general care tasks such as feeding, walking, loving the animals.
• Engage in play activities and exercise with the animals
• Clear communication at all times.
• Leave a clients house as you found it, or better.
• able to handle/walk large dogs or dogs that pull/jump
• Respect to the client, their home and their family pet.

• Manage your schedule. Be on time to appointments, factor in drive time, etc. If you can’t work a day, give me notice. I understand things come up, but let’s not make a habit of calling out last minute. College applicants, talking to you. You’re in college, want to have fun, party, hey I get it. Can’t be calling in hungover all the time. If I can work hungover, so can you.

Qualifications:

• Previous experience in animal care or other related fields
• Passion for animals. I need someone who cares as much as I do. People are trusting us, let’s be worthy of that trust.
• Ability to interact with animals in a calm, non-threatening manner. Ability to learn how to work with animals personalities quickly and appropriately. I will train you.
• Ability to thrive in a fast-paced environment. It’s a fun job, but can be a shit show in the busy months. Hopefully you’re flexible, but I understand if I deviate from the schedule I’ve given you, and you can’t do more. Appointments are constantly being added or changed. Don’t get stressed, we got this. Stay level headed.
