Position Information Title: Special Programs Academic Navigator Division: Academic Affairs Department: Vice Provost Type: Full Time, Exempt Job Summary As a member of the Vice Provost team, the navigator engages students in Early College and Prison Education programs. The role involves promoting academic preparedness and student success, with responsibilities split evenly between incarcerated students and early college students. The navigator will work proactively to support retention, persistence, and success through academic interventions, working with program managers and directors to facilitate student pathways to post-release and college transition. Key Responsibilities Prison Education Navigator Build relationships with incarcerated students to provide guidance and academic support. Assist students with course selection and post-incarceration educational plans. Collaborate on reentry planning, including educational, vocational, and employment goals. Connect students with correctional facility resources. Develop and deliver educational workshops. Monitor student performance and collaborate with instructors for interventions. Visit students on-site weekly and maintain communication through LMS. Early College Navigator Guide students on policies, resources, and academic expectations. Build mentorship relationships and conduct coaching sessions. Participate in special events and program development. Support transition from high school to college and promote retention. Deliver workshops on college readiness and personal development. Visit students regularly and maintain ongoing contact. Qualifications Minimum: Bachelor’s Degree in Education, Psychology, Counseling, Human Resources, or related field. Preferred: Two years of experience in higher education teaching, counseling, or administration, with experience working with Pacific Islander, Asian American, and local Hawaii students. Knowledge, Skills & Abilities Excellent communication and interpersonal skills. Ability to work effectively with diverse populations. Proficiency in computer applications including Microsoft Office and Google Suite. Strong organizational and reporting skills. Ability to meet deadlines and manage multiple priorities. Attention to detail and high ethical standards. Physical and Other Requirements Light office and community work; ability to lift 20 pounds; good motor skills. Valid Driver’s License required. Willingness to work occasional nights and weekends. Adherence to university safety policies. Support for Catholic and Marianist values; respect for Native Hawaiian and Pacific Island communities. This is a grant-funded position through September 30, 2026, with continuation dependent on funding and departmental needs.
